General Nursing training delivered in Alexandria Borg El Arab

From March 2 – 6 mr. Martin Kooman, a nursing expert at MeduProf-S, conducted a General Nursing training in Egypt.
The training took place in the University Hospital in Borg El Arab, a city at a 1 hours drive from Alexandria.
There were 9 nurses present of various backgrounds: ICU, Dialysis and Paediatric nurses. It was a very enthusiastic group. They were eager to learn. The only challenge was the language; not everyone spoke English very well. Apart from theory on ABCD the training consisted of a lot of hands-on sessions on the same subjects. With the help of an interpreter, some words in Arabic, and “hand and feet” the training week was delivered successfully.

Change Management Module 3 of 4 delivered in Alexandria, Egypt
From March 9 – 13 MeduProf-S delivered the 3rth module of four on the Change Management training program for the two Smouha Hospitals in Alexandria. HRM expert Mr. Kees Huijsmans conducted the training. This training is part of a large project called “Modernization of the Alexandria Hospitals” whereby 3 hospitals that reside under the management of the Alexandria Faculty of Medicine (AFM) receive a building refurbishment, equipment and staff training. Staff is trained in clinical fields (various nursing, medical imaging and laboratory training programs) and management (Change Management, JCI and Hospital Waste Management).The topics of this training were e.g.:
- HRM cycle
- Employment relationships
- Handling grievances and discipline
- Creating commitment
- Forms of attachment
- Change approaches
Because of the active role and positive feedback from the participants MeduProf-S is quite sure that it will help the hospitals to improve their quality.

Abdominal Ultrasound course delivered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
From January 26 – January 30 MeduProf-S delivered a 1-week training in Basic Abdominal Ultrasound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ultrasound expert Mrs. Pamela van Rijswijk conducted the training. The topics of the training were: • Ultrasound Physics • Artifacts • Ultrasound anatomy of all abdominal organs • Pathology of all abdominal organs • Methodical scanning of the abdomen The group consisted of 30 Saudi male and female health practitioners. Teaching methods used were lectures, group work and hands-on. The participants were all very interested, enthusiastic and active.

Foetal Monitoring course delivered in Jizan, Saudi Arabia
From 10 – 14 November Mrs. Marina Smit, a midwife expert at MeduProf-S, has conducted a successful training on the topic Foetal Monitoring in Saudi Arabia. The 25 Saudi nursing participants were motivated and keen on learning something new. Next to topics like foetal wellbeing during pregnancy and Thermoregulation, the training included professional, technical issues like the use of modern equipment like the CTG and Doptone. -
Pharmacology and Adverse drug events courses delivered in Riyadh and Jeddah/ Saudi Arabia
From October 27 – November 7, MeduProf-S Pharmacology expert Mr. Bas van der Werf travelled on to two different places in Saudi Arabia. He conducted 2 different courses:
- Pharmacology in Riyadh from October 27 – 31
- Adverse Drug Events from November 3 – 7 in Jeddah
Each group consisted of 30 Saudi male and female nurses. Teaching methods used were lectures, group work and interactive discussions. The participants were all very interested, enthusiastic and active.

Hypertension, Pharmacology and Adverse drug events courses delivered in Bisha, Hofuf and Damman/ Saudi Arabia


From October 21 – November 7, MeduProf-S Nursing expert Mr. Martin Kooman travelled on to three different places in Saudi Arabia.
He conducted 3 different courses:
- Hypertension in Bisha from October 21 – 24
- Pharmacology in Hofuf from October 27 – 31
- Adverse Drug Events from November 3 – 7 in Dammam
Each group consisted of 30 Saudi male and female nurses. Teaching methods used were lectures, group work and interactive discussions. The participants were all very interested, enthusiastic and active.

Third visit of QA expert to October 6 University, Egypt
From May 5th till May 9th a mission has been executed at October 6 University (O6U) by the QA expert of MeduProf-S. This mission fits in the objectives of the contract with O6U:
Adding value to the October 6 University Applied Medical Science programs and the Physiotherapy program towards European bachelor level.In practice the project is about:
1. Curriculum development (5 programs)
2. Professional teacher training
3. Exchange of teachers and students
4. Quality management
It has been the third visit in a row. After a first inception mission, the second mission introduced Problem Based Learning, collected material for comparing the Egyptian and Dutch programs and gave an introduction into the University Quality Management System. In this mission it was time for an intermediate review.

MeduProf-S starts support of October 6 University, Egypt
MeduProf-S and Fontys University of Applied Sciences signed a contract with October 6 University to run double degree programs in the field of Applied Medical Sciences and Physiotherapy.The co-operation contains the following elements:
Support and training of the local teachers in the process of curriculum upgrade and improvement to the level of European standards, Teacher and student exchange and cooperation in international projects under responsibility of MeduProf-S.The contract is a result of 2 years preparation together with the local partner of MeduProf-S, IHTC in Alexandria. In this 2 years both organisations worked together to overcome the different obstacles and are glad to have the green light from all stakeholders.
The October 6 University is the first private university in the republic of Egypt established by the presidential decree number 243 in 1996. It joined the union of Arabic Universities since 1997. The University includes fourteen Faculties, University Hospital, and two hotels for male and female students. It has a center for quality assurance and accreditation having units in all the faculties, to enhance and disseminate quality culture. The University comprises a modern library, equipped with state of the art audio/visual technology, a large collection of books and references, spacious conference and reading halls, and connected through the internet to several electronic library networks. International Conference for Allied Health Professionals, Nurses and Physicians in Egypt
Following the success of the 1st International Conference for Allied Health Professionals, Nurses and Physicians in 2008, the 2nd Conference in Alexandria, Egypt was equally successful.
Mohammed El Sayed (Managing Director of MCG) officially opened the Conference on 7 April.
800 participants, including many overseas participants and health related students, registered for the Conference.
In the opening session Willem van Prooijen delivered a presentation about MeduProf-S and our involvement with the International Health Training Centre in Alexandria.
