Trainings curriculum development and quality leadership in Ethiopia
From September 29th till October 3rd a training has been executed for representatives of three Ethiopian universities (Mekelle University, Arba Minch University and the Ethiopian Civil Service University). Pieter Bon (Fontys Creative Industries), Karin Verbaken (gender expert) and Everard van Kemenade (MeduProf-S) worked with the group on the improvement of the curriculum to make these more fit to the needs of the labour market.
From 6th till 9th of October a second training took place for managers of the same three universities on quality leadership. Everard van Kemenade led the group through the principles of leadership and change management, using the ACCRA © model. (Attention, Context, Commitment, Reflection an Action).
Both trainings were appreciated very much by the participants.

Second Module of 3 on Maintenance Medical Equipment delivered in Ghana / Winneba Trauma & Specialist Hospital
From September 22- 29 MeduProf-S expert Roel de Wilde went for the second time to Ghana to train the maintenance staff of the Winneba Trauma & Specialist Hospital. The staff was trained during this week in theory and hands-on sessions how to provide and manage maintenance on medical gasses, water supply and electricity. They also learned to integrate the record keeping in de plant prevent maintenance. The WHO manuals in these were used as a reference. In November the final module will be executed. This module will also including a review of module I and II.Participants valued the knowledge and skills brought to them during the training and they enjoyed working with the expert.

Final week Accident & Emergency nursing conducted in Winneba, Ghana
MeduProf-S expert Erik van Roon went to the Winneba Trauma & Specialist Hospital, Ghana from 16 – 20 June 2014 and conducted the fourth and final week Accident & Emergency nursing course.The expert coached the participants preparing for the exam on Friday. They did this by teaching each other about the topics they had learned the three prior weeks before.
Related to the components of the ABCDE-model as a basic approach for trauma and non-trauma patients visiting the A & E department, they refreshed, exchanged and shared their knowledge about triage, emergency nursing assessment, airway management, cardio vascular emergencies, shock and pain management. As a result of their efforts all participants succeeded the final exam and received a certificate of competence in emergency nursing!

In the upcoming months the nurses will share their newly gained competences with their colleagues who were not able to join the course.

KAMPALA MRI CENTER officially opened.
On the 11th of June 2014 Kampala MRI Center (KAMRIC) was officially opened by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Hon. Alphons Hennekens. KAMRIC is a Joint Venture between ECUREI, KIC and MeduProf-S. The center will offer high quality MRI diagnostics. This quality will be reached through the choice of the equipment, (Philips Achieva 1.5 Tesla), extensive training of the staff and the connection with a hospital (Ziekenhuis Bernhoven) in the Netherlands.The radiologists of this hospitals will do peer reviews and diagnoses on request and will visit KAMRIC frequently to exchange knowledge. During the opening ceremony there was a demonstration by the MRI operators and explanation of Dr. Iga Mutova to the guests and the press. Also the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Hon. Dr. Lukwago Asuman visited the place and congratulated the KAMRIC partners with this achievement.
By organizing MRI training programs and seminars the center strives to become the center of excellence in MRI of the region.

Third week Accident & Emergency course for nurses conducted in Ghana
From 12 – 16 May 2014 MeduProf-S expert
Erik van Roon went to Winneba, Ghana and conducted the third week Accident & Emergency course for nurses.This week’s focus was a further in depth assessment and related interventions of the trauma and non-trauma patient attending the A & E department. The participants wrote different scenario’s, trauma and/or non-trauma and mixtures, and were put into practice at the ward. Interpreting the ECG and the hemodynamic consequences is essential in understanding the patient’s situation and related to the interventions, especially when a CPR-situation is in progress, and was one of the main topics this week. The participants stated at the beginning of the week that they wanted to share their newly obtained knowledge with their colleagues. They organised a training session Basic Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and conducted it very well! Both the theoretical and practical part were covered during the training session. Again all the nurses were well prepared and are looking forward to the last week of training in June.

Financial Management in Trauma & Specialist Hospital
From 31-3 till 4-4 MeduProf-S expert Bas Denissen RA provided the course financial management to the staff of the financial administration of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Ghana. Finance is highly regulated on national level in Ghana’s healthcare system, however there were enough subjects of interest on the level of the hospital. Subjects taught were budgeting, forecasting, integrated reporting, cash management and the business balanced scorecard method. The participants presented on the last day their knowledge and learning about the business balanced scorecard and business cases to the director of the hospital. The participants rated the competence of the expert and the quality of the course very high, between very good and excellent and expert and participants enjoyed working together. -
Training Maintenance Medical Equipment in Winneba Trauma & Specialist Hospital

In the first week of April MeduProf-S expert Roel de Wilde trained the maintenance staff of the Winneba Trauma & Specialist Hospital. In 2015 the staff must be able to take over the first line maintenance activities. Therefor the staff was trained during this week in hands-on sessions to provide for maintenance on medical equipment as suction equipment, ECG patient monitors compressors etc. They also learned to develop a preventive maintenance plan and instructions for end-users. The WHO manuals in these were used for reference. Later this year two more weeks will follow, including a training in maintenance of the facilities.
Participants valued the knowledge and skills brought to them during the training and they enjoyed working with the expert.

Nursing expert Erik van Roon conducted the second module of the Accident and Emergency course in Winneba, Ghana


From 10 – 14 March 2014 MeduProf-S expert Erik van Roon conducted the second week Accident & Emergency course for nurses of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Ghana.
The participants had a different background, according to their working environment; Accident & Emergency Ward, Paediatric Ward, the Male Ward, the Female Ward and Operating Theatre.
After a recap from the previous week new topics were introduced such as cardiovascular emergencies. Part of the assessment done in Circulation consists of recording an ECG. The participants practiced this and the next step was interpreting the rhythm. There were lectures in the conducting system of the heart and finally they learned how to evaluate a cardiac rhythm in a systematic way.
The participants were very eager for learning and stated that they are looking forward to the next week of training! They really want to improve and deliver time-critical treatment for all of their patients.
