The last 4 years MeduProf-S implemented a Biomedical Engineering course at Kyambogo University in Uganda. The motivated local teachers led by John Okuonzi made optimal use of the support of this project. Together with the students they volunteered to construct the furniture and they did minor reconstructions of the buildings, to make the place ready for the program.
Two years ago the program started with the help of curriculum experts of MeduProf-S. The support program is finished and this was the reason for Managing Director Willem van Prooijen to pay a surprise visit to the Biomedical department, to monitor the impact of the by MeduProf-S supported Biomedical Engineering diploma program. He found a proud head of department John Okuonzi full of stories. The first 16 students from the 21 were graduated, 6 employed by the government (the goal was 5). The 16 are all employed and from the field they get very promising testimonials. The school is now continuous runned very well by local staff. The department gets lots of positive reactions from hospitals. In Mbarara, where broken equipment was efficiently repaired and also from Jinja and Mulago hospital. Another result is the development of award winning simplified equipment to be used in rural areas. MeduProf-S Uganda Ltd. will partner with the department to develop prototypes, test it in hospitals and find the way to production. Sustainability in practice!!
